MEET THE CREW
Jackie & John McLaughlin Sr.
Jackie & John Sr. started this business over 40 years ago with a small waterfront property, a gas bar, and a few small wooden row boats as rentals. Since then they have built the business to expand across the road and added a second location at Rideau Ferry (for the "big" boats). Their dedication and respect to their clients over the years has helped John's Marina to grow to one of the most respected marinas in Ontario. Jackie is still working year round to keep John's Marina on an even keel and John Sr. still runs the Rideau Ferry Harbour Marina. After 40 years, neither show little intent of slowing down.
John McLaughlin Jr.
John Jr. is the "Captain of the Ship." As Jackie and John Sr.'s son he has lived and breathed boats since he was born. He has now taken the wheel of the 40 plus years family business, keeping it all going on the right heading. John can often be seen carrying a large pail of Tim's coffee. In his "spare" time, John likes to be out boating with his wife Jane and 3 children, or flying by on his new chrome covered Harley.
Bev, John Jr.'s youngest sister, looks after the administration and operations for the marina, among many other duties, providing us with the tools and information we need to keep on sailing.
Dave is the newest addition to the John's Marina sales team and also doubles as our water technician. He comes to us with an extensive business background. He has lived in New York, Montreal, Ottawa, and the Almonte area where he owned and operated the well-known Phantom Farms, offering professional horse breeding, raising, training for equestrian horses. He sold that business and packed up the horses and moved to Perth for his retirement. Dave's passion for boats comes naturally to him as his father was a Captain with Cunard Lines. He has had a boat of one type or another since he was six years old. When Dave takes you out in your new boat for a familiarization, there is no end to the technical and practical knowledge he can offer, as well as a few good fishing stories (which may or may not be true). Dave says he is an entrepreneur striving to retire and enjoys his work here. "Getting paid to drive boats all day...what's not to like?"
Keith joined us in 2009 as our service adviser. Since then he has acquired many other “hats” to wear as parts person, dock sales, general operations, marketing and can even be seen at times holding a broom. Keith left us for a short time, thinking the water was “calmer on the other side of the lake”, but has since returned to his new position with us as Sales Administrator. Keith brings 27 years of retail sales experience to our team.
Dave is a veteran of the John's Marina crew and is a mechanic with a lifetime of experience in the marine business. We like to boast that we have the best marine mechanic in the Ottawa Valley and if Dave can't fix your engine, you should use it as an anchor.
John Sr.'s brother, who has been a mechanic since day one, looks after many many duties including repairs, service, property maintenance, storage, and anything else that need doing. Most importantly, Terry knows where each of the 300 plus storage boats is kept!
All of us here at John's Marina work together as a team to ensure your boat buying experience is a pleasant, worry-free voyage. Our number one goal is to get you into a boat suited to your needs so you will have many memorable years of family fun and adventure on the water.
